Key features of the Diamondback Overdrive:
29" Wheels: Obstacle Roll Over – Larger wheels decrease your angle of attack meaning the wheels roll over trail obstacles with less impact, reducing fatigue and smoothing out the trail. Bigger wheel = smaller obstacle. Momentum – A larger wheel diameter means better momentum once rolling and faster rolling over obstacles and open terrain. Surface Contact – 29"wheels are less prone to sinking in soft material such as sand and mud due to the larger contact patch causing lower ground pressure. The longer contact patch increases cornering and straight line traction. Stability – The relative position of the bottom bracket/cranks to the axles in the wheels also means that your relative center of gravity is lower. This results in a feeling of riding "in" the bike rather than on top of it. Tire Clearance – with more tire choices than any platform, the 29"wheel easily accommodates off road as well as commuting tires.
Frame: The Overdrive features a butted 6061-T6 aluminum frame. 6061 aluminum is airplane grade aluminum while T6 refers to a heat treating process that creates extra strength in the metal. The butting process lets the thickness of the frame tubes be varied; putting more material at stress points for added strength, and less material at non-stress points for weight savings. The final result is a sturdy frame that weighs less than steel and many other aluminum frames on the market. Less weight means it takes less energy to move the bike.
Fork: Suspension forks compresses over bumps to help absorb shock meaning less jarring and body stress to the rider and resulting in less arm fatigue while riding. When it comes to shock absorption the Suntour 100mm/4” travel fork found on the Overdrive will give you enough compression for getting over roots, rocks, and pesky potholes in comfort.
Mechanical Disc Brakes: Mechanical disc brakes have better stopping power than rim brakes in a wide range of conditions, especially the wet and mud.
24-speed Drivetrain: With 3 chainrings to choose from on the crank (front) and 8 cogs to choose from on the cassette (back) you get to choose from 24 different gear combinations in order to get you where you need to go. The 2013 Overdrive a fantastic entry level hardtail 29er for those looking for a great balance between value and performance.
